On June 22, 2026, Zhipu AI (stock code: XXXX) closed at HKD 2410.000 on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, with a total market capitalization of HKD 1.07 trillion, becoming the first Chinese company to achieve a trillion-dollar market cap in the secondary market as an AI-native entity. Since its IPO at HKD 116.20 on January 8, the stock price has surged nearly 20-fold.

Employee Wealth Effect

Among the founding team, Chief Scientist Jie Tang directly held 6.1% of shares, worth about HKD 65.2 billion; co-founder Juanzi Li held 0.76%, worth about HKD 8.1 billion; Chairman Debing Liu held 0.21%, worth about HKD 2.2 billion; CEO Peng Zhang held 0.09%, worth about HKD 1 billion; and co-founder Bin Xu held 0.18%, worth about HKD 1.9 billion. The five Tsinghua-affiliated founders collectively held nearly HKD 80 billion in direct shares.

Technological Breakthrough: GLM-5.2 Release

On the same day, Zhipu released its flagship model GLM-5.2, with key upgrades including:

  • 1M Context Window: Adopting the IndexShare architecture, sharing an indexer every 4 layers, reducing single-token computation by 2.9x; optimized MTP speculative decoding improves acceptance length by 20%.
  • Benchmark Performance: Ranked first among open-source models in long-horizon software engineering benchmarks FrontierSWE, PostTrainBench, and SWE-Marathon, slightly behind closed-source Opus 4.8, and comprehensively surpassing GPT-5.5 and Gemini 3.1 Pro; scored 81.0 on the general code benchmark Terminal-Bench 2.1 (GLM-5.1: 63.5) and 62.1 on SWE-bench Pro (GLM-5.1: 58.4).
  • Web Design Capability: Ranked first in the Design Arena single-round HTML design leaderboard, surpassing closed-source models such as Claude Fable 5 and Opus series. The model has 744B parameters, no vision module, and pricing of $1.4/$4.4 per million tokens for input/output, far lower than Fable 5's $10/$50.
  • Open Source License: Released under the MIT license, with open weights and support for local inference frameworks such as vLLM and SGLang.

Market and Industry Impact

Morgan Stanley reiterated an "Overweight" rating, stating that Zhipu is replicating Palantir's path, building an AI infrastructure moat through government and large enterprise contracts. The release of GLM-5.2 further solidifies its technological leadership and demonstrates that open-source models can surpass closed-source solutions on multiple benchmarks, significantly lowering the barrier to AI development.
